I found myself shying away from making New Years Resolutions. I think I told myself it was because it seemed cliché, but truth be told? I didn’t want to fail. Making resolutions gave me a very easy path to failure. If I don’t make resolutions, then I can’t look back at the year with regret. But what was I also leaving out? The opportunity for success & growth.
That fear of failure kept me from so much. It held me back from speaking up, from stepping out, from moving forward. I was afraid that even if I tried & failed in a way that no one else would know about – that I would still know & that deep down, I would feel that failure in a way that would kill my spirit.
It wasn’t until I understood the beauty in failure that I began setting goals again. I realized that, most of the time, when I “failed” at something it didn’t actually matter. So what? Most of my failures have equated to loosing a few hundred dollars, a chunk of my time & learning a life lesson in the process. However, the reward that comes when I DID’T fail? I was quickly addicted to that feeling.
So as I look 2019 in the face, I do so unafraid. Ready for risks. Ready for successes. And ready for failure.
Bring it, 2019.
